Street Legal started over 10 years ago as a Book and Forms Store for people who wanted to represent themselves or prepare their own legal documents. At that time, Street Legal offered much of the catalog of NOLO Press books for sale -- books written with the layperson in mind. In 2009, Street Legal donated its entire inventory of NOLO Press books to the Anne Arundel County Public Law Library on the main floor of the Anne Arundel Circuit Court located on Church Circle in downtown Annapolis. David Simison merged Street Legal into his law practice so that more energies could be devoted to helping people rather than trying to sell them books.
David Simison now provides legal services to the general public on a walk-in basis. Customers can register for consultations as short as 15 minutes. The entire reason for Street Legal is to allow customers to have control over their legal expense. The intention is to allow customers to prepare their own legal documents at home and at their leisure. Then the customer can walk in to Street Legal and have David Simison review the documents for legal efficacy. Customers can significantly shorten the amount of legal time spent on creation of documents and also significantly reduce their legal fees by preparing the document on their own.
